Greetings and salutations to C.L. (Cyndi) Pauwels, one of the many fine authors who shared their fabulous desserts and words of wisdom in Bake, Love, Write: 105 Authors Share Dessert Recipes and Advice on Love and Writing.
What is the name of the recipe you included in Bake, Love, Write? Could you tell us a little about it, and why did you choose that recipe?
My recipe contribution is Great-aunt Zella Kirkendall’s Friendship Cookie, a family-favorite wonderfully soft sugar cookie passed down through at least four generations. This is one cookie all the members of my family can agree on.
Could you give a short quote of the advice you included in the book?
[My husband and I] work at our relationship together—separate individuals, but stronger as a team. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. He’s my best friend. When we have a problem, we deal with it together, not on Facebook or Twitter or with a pal.
Use your writerly powers of description to describe your kitchen.
Compact. Open (to the great room). Well-used. Narrow and in need of an upgrade!

Forty & Out, a police procedural mystery set in Toledo, Ohio, started life as a short story published in 1990, grew into a first-draft novel with NaNoWriMo 2006, and after many revisions, rewrites, and rejections, found a home with Deadly Writes Publishing, who released it as my debut in September 2014.
Someone is targeting Toledo’s single women when they turn forty, tucking them into bed and turning birthday greetings into obituaries. Newly-assigned Toledo Homicide Detective Veronica Jadzinski vows to prevent the body count from increasing and to prove her transfer from Narcotics wasn’t a fluke—departmental regulations, disparaging lieutenants, and a rigid new partner be damned.

Here are more details on Bake, Love, Write below:
What do most authors have in common, no matter what genre they write? They love desserts. Sweets sustain them through pending deadlines and take the sting out of crushing rejection letters and nasty reviews. They also often celebrate their successes—selling a book, winning a writing award, making a bestseller list, or receiving a fabulous review—with decadent indulgences. And when authors chat with each other, they often talk about their writing and their lives. Recipes. Writing. Relationships. In this cookbook 105 authors not only share their favorite recipes for fabulous cakes, pies, cookies, candy, and more, they also share the best advice they’ve ever received on love and writing.
