Behind the Scenes of Cinderella’s Enchanted Night by @amberdaulton1 #GlassSlipperSisters

Cinderella's Enchanted Night
Today I’m delighted to welcome one of my fellow Glass Slipper Sisters Amber Daulton to my blog. Amber is featuring her Cinderella-themed romance novel Cinderella’s Enchanted Night. As a fan of contemporary, paranormal and historical novels alike, she can’t get enough of feisty heroines and alpha heroes. Her mind is a wonderland of romance and adventure, laughter and awesome ways of kicking a guy when he’s down. And now it’s time to get to know her better…

What inspired you to write a book based off the story of Cinderella?

My publisher came to me with the idea of a group of girlfriends who all make a wish on a magic locket to look like Cinderella. Since my story is the last in the Cinderella Body Club series, I needed to do something a little different from the other three books. So my heroine, Annalise, goes to a fairy tale wedding in a princess-type gown as a brunette. Yep, that’s right. My Cinderella is a brunette!

How did you come up with the plot and title?

The classic Cinderella story is all about enchantment. Annalise needs a little bit of magic in her life and she thinks just one night with the man of her dreams will be enough. The title fits but Annalise soon learns enchantment and love can’t be denied, not even after the stroke of midnight.

How did you decide on a setting?
My H/h live in Portland, Oregon and they’re both artsy with a love of art history. Elijah works in an art museum and Annalise is an art-framer who works at a gallery across the street. My publisher chose the city of Portland, which has a huge art and Indie film scene, so it made sense for my characters to embrace the culture of the area.

How is it similar to the traditional Cinderella tale?
Annalise survived an abusive, miserable childhood as Cinderella did and finally took a chance on her prince after her fairy godmother (which happened to be the magic locket) granted her beauty.

How is it different?
Annalise never knew her father, her mother suffered from alcoholism, and she had to deal with her mother’s abusive boyfriends. Unlike Cinderella who grew up graceful in the midst of childhood pain and trauma, Annalise acted out as a moody, depressed teenager normally would.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Definitely! You gotta love yourself, scars and all. No matter what you’ve endured, you need to forgive and move on with your life. Beauty is always within.

What else are you currently working on?
I’m re-editing the first book in a romantic suspense trilogy. I’ve worked on the trilogy for over three years, I’m considering writing four more books in a spinoff series, and I think book one is about ready to find a publisher. We’ll just have to wait and see.

If not Cinderella, who is your favorite Disney Princess and why?
Jasmine is my favorite princess. She’s spunky, gorgeous with that long black hair, and her blue outfit is so cool. Plus, she has Aladdin. He’s a hot street-rat and my favorite prince. I know the words to ‘A Whole New World’ like the back of my palm and I sometimes break out into song and sing it at random times.

Annalise Gallagher wanted Elijah Burleigh. Plain and simple. She’d watched him from afar for months, her friends called her ‘his own personal stalker’, and then she made a wish on a magic pendant for a full-body makeover. Transformed into the gorgeous knockout she’d always wanted to be, she asked Elijah out on a date and wore a haute couture gown straight from Paris to his friend’s wedding. With just twenty-four hours on the clock, her enchanted night faded into the morning hours and everything crashed down around her. Annalise harbored a shameful secret and Elijah demanded the truth with the veil of magic gone. The truth, however, could destroy her fragile confidence and push him away forever.
