Interview with Contemporary Romance Audiobook Author Amber Daulton @amberdaulton1

I welcome contemporary romance audiobook author Amber Daulton to my blog today as the newest addition to my Audiobook Corner series of interviews. Amber is the author of Cinderella’s Enchanted Night, a sweet and spicy love story about a woman who needed a little Cinderella magic to believe in herself. She loves romance stories of all subgenres and has several books available in audio.

What was it like hearing your books narrated as an audiobook?
Surreal! It’s the only word to really describe it. First of all, I think it’s an honor to have a book come out in audio. Not all books get the privilege so I’m very happy my publisher decided to do so. It’s just a great feeling to hear my words spoken aloud.

What would you tell someone who has never tried listening to an audiobook? Why are audiobooks a good alternative to print or e-books?

I know some readers like to listen to an audio while they relax, read along with the ebook or print copy, or do nothing else. That’s great, but other readers like to multitask. They listen to the book while they drive in their car (it’s really just like listening to the radio), while they clean or exercise. No matter how you do it, it’s definitely something to try and, hey, you can always go back to print if you don’t like it.

Do you outline your books or wing it? Describe your process.

I like to outline chapter by chapter. Sometimes I follow my notes to the word. Other times the characters take over and steer my story in another direction. Then I have to get into arguments with my H/h and force them back into the outline. More often than not, they refuse to get back in line and I have to write what they want.
Heh, it’s a give and a take relationship.

What genre(s) do you write in? Why?
I write in a variety of romantic subgenres because I love them all. They include contemporary, romantic suspense, historical, western, NA, erotic romance, time travel, and paranormal. Some story ideas can span any setting time or setting, but others fit in one or two subgenres and nowhere else so I like to keep my options open.

How much research was involved in writing your books? How did you go about it?

For Cinderella’s Enchanted Night, I did a lot of research into art, paintings and museums since Annalise’s and Elijah’s hobbies and jobs are part of the art world. In all honesty, I learned more than I cared to but research is just as much fun to me as writing is.

What is your latest audiobook about? Who is the narrator? Please share audio retail links also.

Cinderella’s Enchanted Night is a twist on the classic fairytale with an adult twist. Annalise openly admits to stalking to sexy tour guide at the museum but she doesn’t have the courage to approach him. After she and her best friends make a wish on a magic locket to look beautiful, she finally finds the strength of inner beauty to ask Elijah on a date. Little did she know, he liked her for her all along… Anna Starr narrates and the audio clocks in at only an hour and 38 minutes. Yep, it’s a novella. For someone who’s hesitant to waltz her way into the world of audio books or for a seasoned listener, this book is the perfect size to start your day off right.

Tell us about your hero or heroine in this book. Give us one of his/her strengths and one of his/her weaknesses.
As I’m sure you’ve guessed, Annalise deals with self-esteem issues. She knows what she wants but, like all of us at one time or another, she needs a little push in the right direction. Elijah has problems too. His bad childhood mirrors Annalise’s but he’s come through it easier than she has hers. Together, they move on and become stronger people.

What other audiobooks have you written?
My other audiobooks include: A Hero’s Heart, Lightning over Bennett Ranch, Mistletoe in the City, and Timeless Honor. Along with Cinderella’s Enchanted Night, they’re all available at

Annalise Gallagher wanted Elijah Burleigh. Plain and simple. She’d watched him from afar for months, her friends called her “his own personal stalker”, and then she made a wish on a magic pendant for a full-body makeover. Transformed into the gorgeous knockout she’d always wanted to be, she asked Elijah out on a date and wore a haute couture gown straight from Paris to his friend’s wedding.

With just 24 hours on the clock, her enchanted night faded into the morning hours and everything crashed down around her. Annalise harbored a shameful secret and Elijah demanded the truth with the veil of magic gone.

The truth, however, could destroy her fragile confidence and push him away forever.
